ABOUT

Thrive Poultry CIC was founded in 2024 by Emma Checkley, an ecologist with a deep love for chickens, animal welfare, and agroecology. Based in South Devon, Emma’s passion for poultry has led her to breed rare poultry for exhibition, where she has seen firsthand the importance of preserving heritage breeds. Her belief in the therapeutic power of chickens, coupled with her work as an ecologist, fuels her commitment to both nature and animal welfare.

At Thrive, we focus on preserving rare and heritage poultry breeds, particularly those with a rich history in their relationship with people. These breeds not only contribute to biodiversity but also carry rich cultural and agricultural significance. Through our breeding program, we aim to ensure the future of these unique birds while promoting better animal welfare practices and fostering a connection to the past.

Thrive is a collaborative project, bringing together local individuals who are  passionate about environmental sustainability, animal welfare, and community well-being. We offer high-quality poultry products, educational workshops, and opportunities for people to engage with the healing and therapeutic benefits of poultry keeping. By helping individuals experience the joy of raising chickens, we promote mental health and wellness while strengthening the bond between people, land, and heritage.

Together, we're committed to preserving the rich legacy of keeping poultry, while building a more sustainable, connected, and resilient future.
